如何在vmware下安装Linux虚拟机的tools？

host: WinXP, guest: Red Hat Linux 9.0

安装vmware tools过程中，有几个问题分享：
1。点击VM->Install VMware Tools后并不会像windows guest那样一路ok，会跳出一个文件夹/mnt/cdrom/，
下面有个tar.gz文件，安装停止在那里。这个时候，右键，解压缩这个gz文件到某个可写目录下，比如 /home/
jhb/

2。桌面，右键，创建一个终端，进入/home/jhb/下可以看到一个目录vmware-tools-distrib
进入该目录： cd vmware-tools-distrib
执行vmware tools安装：./vmware-install.pl
一路回车，出现一个错误：
This configuration program is to be executed out of an XFree86 session. Please shut down all instances of XFree86.
Execution aborted

在网上查了下，得到答案如下：
open a terminal window, and edit your /etc/inittab file. Look for a line that looks like:

id:5:initdefault:

and change the 5 to a 3. Shutdown and reboot. On reboot, you'll have strictly CLI access. Go and run the program that your supposed to run, then edit your /etc/inittab file again, changing the 3 to a 5. Shutdown reboot (from the CLI $ shutdown -r now, IIRC).

That will enable you to finish the vmware install. You might have to start the entire install from the CLI, and I don't know much about VMWare so I'm not sure if this will leave you with a good installation or not, but it will get you to a non-X environment like it's asking for...

英文的，但是很简单，就是将 /etc/inittab下
id:5:initdefault: 的5改为3即可，
重起，进入文本界面，重新到/home/jhb/vmware-tools-distrib/执行vmware-install.pl
成功，再重起时，tools安装得很好

3。更改分辨率
在系统设置-〉显示下，改为1024*768，就可以了
